In this section we will show you how to modify your website. You will need to log into your cPanel account and access the on-site HTML Editor.
Here’s how to do this.
First, you need to log into your website’s cPanel (control panel). The email you received from LisaDesigns contains information on how to login to cPanel.
http://www.yourwebsite.com/cpanel Of course replace the “yourwebsite.com” with the address of your website. So if your website address was yourdomain.com, go to the following address to access your cPanel.
When you go to the above address a window will pop up asking for your “User Name” and “Password“. Enter the same user name and password.
After you’ve entered the correct username and password you will taken to your cPanel page. This page looks fairly confusing (especially if you’re new to computers), but don’t worry because it’s really easy to understand.
What you need to do first is to click on the file “File Manager” button in the “Files” box/section.
A window will open up and will ask you to select a directory to open. Select the “Web Root (public_html/www)” directory and click on the “Go” button.
After you click on the “Go” button, a new page will open up and will display a large list of file names on the Right side of the page. Look for the file titled “index.html” and check the box to the left of it, which will select it.
* If you do not see the check boxes on the left side of the files, It’s your browser’s fault. Please update it. This is a known issue with IE6.
If it’s a “index.php” you want to modify, you will need to rename the ending extension of .php to .html, press refresh. Then you can access the file with the HTML editor.
Warning! Always make sure to backup your page before attempting to make changes to it, or you’ll need to republish it again. You can download a copy of it from here.
Once it’s selected, look towards the very top of the page and click on the button titled “HTML Editor“.
A window will then pop up, when it does click on the “Edit” button at the bottom of the window. After you click on the “Edit” button a page will load and it will show your website page.
Now you are free to edit anything you would like.
To save changes, this can be done so by clicking on the little floppy disk at the top left.
You may need to upload image files or PDF files at some point. The first thing you need to do is make absolutely sure your files are compressed. If you upload files that are too large they will crash the server and your site will go down. For images, 500K should be the absolute max. For PDF files — no larger than 1 meg. If you need to compress your graphics, there is a good online compression utility here.
EHow has a great tutorial on how to upload your graphics from cPanel. You can follow the link here for more information.
